Why most barbershops turn long hair away

Barber training is built around short hair. Clippers, fades, necklines, tight blends. That’s a real craft, but it’s a different one.

Long hair needs scissor work, weight removal, and layers that still fall right once the hair dries and moves. Get it wrong and someone walks out with a shelf across the back of their head. So a lot of shops just don’t take it on, and you get sent to a salon instead.

Bottima runs both licensed barbers and licensed cosmetologists. Cosmetology training is where long hair cutting actually lives — that’s why we can do it and most barbershops can’t.

How much is a long hair cut?

Starts at $45. Long hair takes longer than a fade, so the final price depends on length, thickness and how much shaping it needs. We’ll tell you before we start.

Will you try to talk me into cutting it short?

No. Tell us how much length you want to keep and we work inside it. If the haircut you want takes off half an inch, that’s the haircut.

Do you cut women’s long hair?

Yes. Men, women and kids.

I’m growing it out. Should I still get it cut?

Yes. Ends split, weight builds at the sides, and the shape widens as it grows. A trim every couple of months through the awkward phase protects the length you’re working toward.

Do I need an appointment?

Walk in anytime. Several of our barbers and stylists take long hair, so someone can always help you. Mention it when you book or when you come in and we’ll put you with the right person.
